My Work Necessities As a Designer & a Creative… I spend a lot of time at my desk… Since starting on this journey, I’ve learnt just how quickly you can be affected being at a desk for long periods of time. I can cause damage quickly and quite severely if your not working in a healthy way. Just because we’re at desks all the time doesn’t mean you don’t take care of yourself it just means you have to do it in a different way. So I’ve put together a list of products that have helped me support my body in the right way to preventmigraines, joint and back pain and carpal tunnel. I am in no way sponsored by any of these products, brands or purchase sites! These additions to my workspace have aided my work life and my health exponentially, so hopefully they will work for you too! They allow me to work while people are having conversations around me, the TV is in the background or if I’m just having a bad day and can’t focus. I find overstimulation to be a major factor when it comes to how much work I get done, how well I can “lock in” and how easily I can throw in the towel and give up for the day. With Loops I find it easier to get into that nice flow state, without being fully cut-off from the world around me. The WD My Passport Portable Hard Drive has a sleek design to slide right into your bag, files on the go. I personally don’t travel with my work much, but I do have ALOT of files, and it’s always better to have a backup than to make a stupid mistake and lose everything. It’s a great way to protect your files and store them with peace of mind. Available in 2, 4 and 5 TB. My Throne In the first 12 months of my design journey, I was sitting on a backless ottoman, that provided little to no seat cushion and absolutely no back support! My posture was that of a cave gremlin and my back and shoulders hurt all the time. I’ve since rectified that with this chair. It’s a supportive with a plush wide-set cushion for thiccc thighs and it has back tilt, chair tilt and seat height adjustments; so I can get comfortable before getting into a long day of desk work. Sadly this chair is no longer available, but there are always plently of quality computer chairs on the market. While i do pride myself on my aesthetics, DO NOT compromise support for looks. The colour of this chair was a bonus, not a requirement. Ensure that your computer chair is comfortable and ergonomic, how cute it is doesn’t matter in comparison to health! Previous slide Next slide Supports Within a few months of working at my desk day and night, I realised I had squashed a nerve in my arm, and I temporarily lost feeling in half my hand. After going to a Dr I realised it was how my desk was set up. My arm was resting directly on the edge of the desk, I had no wrist support or arm padding, so my nerve was being squashed. After buying extra supports, within a few months my hand has gone back to normal! I purchased two kind of supports for the most ergonomic and comfortable set-up for my desk. Now no matter how long I’m at the desk, my arms and wrists are supported! Buy Wrist Supports Buy Arm Supports Have a blog idea? Reach out via Instagram with what you would like to see more of!
